The Town of Townsend was built along a military rd in 1864.  It was originally named Johnson Siding and later, along with Lakewood, became known as the Town of wheeler.  The Town was named Townsend in honor of the man who drove the first railroad spike here.

The Town of Townsend is pleased to announce its 2nd annual Holiday Lights Competition for the 2020 holiday season.

The contest includes two categories:  Homes and businesses.  Sign-up forms for both will be available in the clerk's office starting November 13th, and participants must return their entries to later than December 8th.

A list of contestants, along with a map of display locations and voting ballots, may be picked up from either the Townsend Town Hall or Karla's Kountry Kitchen beginning December 11th.  Contest voters will have until 3pm on Dec. 29th to cast their ballots.

April 6, 2021 election

The town elections will be Tuesday, April 6, 2021.  Town offices up for election are:  Chairperson, Supervisor (2), Clerk and Treasurer.  Nomination papers are available from the clerk November 17, 2020
