The Town of Townsend was built along a military rd in 1864. It was originally named Johnson Siding and later, along with Lakewood, became known as the Town of Wheeler. The Town was named Townsend in honor of the man who drove the first railroad spike here.

Need a new fire number sign? Contact the clerk at or call 715-276-6856. A double sided sign is $15.00 and the pole to mount is $5.00.
The Townsend landfill WILL NOT accept construction materials . These loads need to be brought to Mar-Oco in Crivitz or contract a dumpster service
The Town of Townsend road projects will begin the week of June 14 with pulverizing these roads:
E. Chain Lake Rd
Forest Hill from North Bay to Valley View
E. Burnt Dam from Roosevelt to Pete's place
Dencur Court and Lane
W. Burnt Dam Rd from Dencur to Forest Hill
Blacktopping and chip sealing will follow...probably after the 4th of July.
