PAST

The Town of Townsend was originally built along a Military road in 1864.  It was named Johnson Siding and later, along with Lakewood, became known as the Town of Wheeler.  The Town later became known as  Townsend in honor of the man who drove the first railroad spike here and established April 4, 1916.

PRESENT

Townsend has 95 plus miles of Town Roads, a Volunteer Fire Department and Community Ambulance. The old railroad right-o-way is now part of the Oconto County Recreation Trail. Thousands of summer residents enjoy their time on more than twenty lakes in the Town of Townsend as well as the McCaslin Brook. Several area clubs and organizations provide year round activities in our Town.

FUTURE

Our community is growing in leaps and bounds as summer residents decide to retire in the north woods and make Townsend their home. With this growth comes a lot of changes and improvements. Stay Tuned! We welcome those that want to make Townsend a huge part of their future and hope they volunteer their talents now and in the future!

Farmers Market every Saturday

Farmers Market Poster WITHOUT DATE_edite

We look forward to seeing many vendors participate and community to attend, browse and buy!

We have someone providing vegetables but are looking for additional venders. We want to make this a great Farmers Market by providing baked goods, flowers or plants, honey or syrup, eggs, beverages, cheeses, spices and crafts. All vendors will need to fill out a Farmers Market vendor form.

All vendors are responsible for taking care of any state or county requirements including providing Tax ID number, Insurance and Liability information. 10 x 10 spaces are available.  We will be waiving the fee for vendors to attend in 2024.
