The Town of Townsend was built along a Military road in 1864. It was originally named Johnson Siding and later, along with Lakewood, became known as the Town of Wheeler. The Town was named Townsend in honor of the man who drove the first railroad spike here.

In accordance with Ordinance #1-93, NO PARKING of any vehicle is permitted on roads in the Town of Townsend during the hours of 8:00pm and 8:00am from November 1, 2019 to April 1, 2020

The Town of Townsend is selling this 2006 Ford F-350 1 ton dump truck with auto trans.  It is equipped with a Boss 8'6" plow with handheld controller. Please contact the town at 715-276-1801 if interested
